Ukrzaliznytsia transported goods volume drops 26% yoy in September

Обзоры по компаниям и отраслям 08.10.2014 Ukraine’s railway monopoly Ukrzaliznytsia (RAILUA, UZ) loaded 806 kt of goods in September, a 26% drop yoy, according to the entity’s Oct. 7 press release. At the same time, the monopoly reported its freight turnover increased 8% yoy to 1.50 mln t*km in September. Alexander Paraschiy: The September UZ results indicate that the efficiency of its freight transportation has been significantly distorted: its trains covered a bigger distance to transport a smaller amount of goods. This seems to be the result of damaged infrastructure in Donbas, which forces the trains to use much longer bypass routes. Given that freight rates in Ukraine depend on the distance covered by a transporting railcar, this should have caused Ukrzaliznytsia’s freight transport revenue to fall much less than 26% yoy in September, which is good news for the monopoly.
