IMF head's visit to Kyiv

Макроэкономика 07.09.2015 Sunday's visit of Christine Lagarde to Kyiv could provide a boost to Ukraine's authorities in their drive to navigate the economy through the ongoing reforms despite the Kremlin's aggression and the protracted deep recession. As reported by WSJ.com, Lagarde praised Ukraine for its ambitious reforms record. President Poroshenko greeted the IMF head, thanking her for her support in general and particularly in the talks with private creditors. This could be a sign that Poroshenko's faction in the parliament this week will support the deal reached with private creditors. Also, this Sunday's rhetoric suggests that Ukraine is most likely meeting the targets necessary to receive the next IMF funding tranche scheduled to be disbursed in November or early December. There was no comment regarding the IMF's view on the status of the US$3bn Russian debt which most likely was discussed yesterday. The IMF's silence suggests that officials are still considering options on how to deal with the debt in practical terms.
