Parent of Luhanskteplovoz to acquire its competitor

Обзоры по компаниям и отраслям 26.12.2012 Russian Transmashholding, the majority shareholder in Luhanskteplovoz (LTPL UK), got approval from the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine to acquire a 50% stake in Kazakhstan’s Locomotive Kurastyru Zauyty, Interfax reported on Dec. 25. The Kazakhstan plant produces GE engine-powered ТE33А locomotives, the main competitor to the TEP6 mainline locomotive (also powered by GE engines), which Luhanskteplovoz was planning to start developing for Middle Eastern and Asian markets in 2013. Roman Dmytrenko: Considering that mass production of ТE33Аs in Kazakhstan started in 2010, Transmashholding will likely cease the TEP6 locomotive project planned by Luhanskteplovoz to avoid competition within the group. With its plan to produce 250 locomotive sections (up 60% yoy) in 2013, we believe Luhanskteplovoz will concentrate on its flagship 2TE116U diesel locos.
